Manny Delcarmen Deemed Expendable, Traded To The Rockies

It was pretty clear that Manny Delcarmen did not have a future as a key role player in the Red Sox bullpen. As a result, the Sox traded Delcarmen and cash to the Rockies for pitching prospect Chris Balcom-Miller before Monday’s waiver trade deadline.

Balcom-Miller is a 21-year-old right-hander who went 6-7 with a 3.31 ERA in 19 starts in Single A this season. He’s also the second player with a lengthy last name acquired by the team this season. But needless to say, it wasn’t exactly a sell high situation for the Sox’ front office…

Red Sox’ Current Playoff Odds

August 31, 2010

The Yankees and Rays were both victorious on Monday night, and with 31 games remaining in the regular season, the Red Sox now trail both teams by a whopping 7 games in the standings. If you haven’t buried the Sox in your mind by now, you likely have less supporters than Roger Clemens.

Here at Fenway Faithful Report, the Sox’ current playoff odds are about as close to zero as humanly possible (click here for the official “FFR Red Sox Eulogy”). But Boston is far from being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, and several less emotional sources have calculated more optimistic predictions (but only slightly)…

The Red Sox’ Season Is Over

Red Sox Nation doesn’t want to hear it, but at this point, it has to be said: The Red Sox are done.

John Lackey wasn’t good enough in the series finale against the Rays on Sunday night (which shouldn’t shock a single person), the Sox dropped 2 of 3 in a pivotal 3-game set down in Tampa, and the club is now 6 and 1/2 games out of a playoff spot with just 31 relatively meaningless games left in the regular season.

Crazier things have happened, but unfortunately they won’t be happening here in 2010…

A Season On The Brink: Red Sox vs. Rays

Posted by Alastair Ingram
August 27, 2010

It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to analyze the importance of this weekend’s Red Sox-Rays series down in Tampa. The result of this 3-game set has the chance to kill or revive Boston’s playoff chances.

Lose 2 of 3 or get swept and the Sox’ season is more than likely over. Win 2 of 3 and the season stays on life support, where it’s consistently been for the last month and a half. Sweep and the Sox are 2 and 1/2 games back, sucking Red Sox Nation back in for the final month of the season.

So what’s your prediction for the weekend at Tropicana Field (I’ve got the Sox taking 2 of 3)? Do Lester and Buchholz step up? Does Lackey crumble on Sunday night? Does the bullpen implode?

Leave your thoughts in the “Comments” section and enjoy what should be a great series…

Dustin Pedroia Likely Done For The Year

According to numerous sources including Peter Abraham and Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, Dustin Pedroia’s foot injury will probably keep him out for the remainder of the season.

Pedroia will reportedly spend the next 10 days in a protective boot, after which he will be reevaluated to determine if surgery is necessary. Pedroia was placed back on the DL late last week after re-aggravating the foot while stealing 2nd base against the Angels.

Pedroia said recently that he was warned about the possibility of returning pain, but he chose to come back anyway. Clearly, that soreness was too much for Pedroia to risk further and more serious injury.
